Three-stage modification of lithospheric mantle: Evidence from petrology, in-situ trace elements, and Sr isotopes of mantle xenoliths in the Cenozoic basalts, northeastern North China Craton

چکیده

Abstract We present mineralogical and geochemical compositions of mantle xenoliths from two Cenozoic basalt localities the northeastern North China Craton. These include lherzolite, harzburgite, websterite. They are generally fertile in major elements different typical cratonic lithosphere, which is consistent with previous hypotheses regarding craton destruction. The ratios 87Sr/86Sr (La/Yb)N clinopyroxenes (Cpx) one lherzolite relatively low core but high rim. center Cpx grain has a U concentration. Changes trace Sr isotopes indicate that later stage melt metasomatism superimposed on early hydrous melt/fluid. Cpxs some Ti/Eu Ca/Al light rare earth elements, indicates carbonate metasomatism. increased decreased rim most grains, reflects superposition two-stage agent should be 87Sr/86Sr, recent 87Sr/86Sr. olivine websterite (0.70220–0.70320), asthenosphere-derived melt. Collectively, these observations reflect three-stage modification lithospheric mantle. First-stage melt/fluid could come dehydration young subducted plates. Second-stage derive partial melting altered oceanic crust, asthenosphere.

In-situ trace element and Sr isotopic compositions of mantle xenoliths constrain two-stage metasomatism beneath the northern North China Craton

Article history: Received 29 March 2017 Accepted 27 July 2017 Available online 04 August 2017 Subduction and collision are the key processes triggering geochemical refertilization of the lithospheric mantle beneath cratons. However, the way that the subducted plate influences the cratonic lithospheric mantle remains unclear. Here, in-situ major and trace-element and Sr isotopic compositions of ...

Sampling Mantle Heterogeneity through Oceanic Basalts: Isotopes and Trace Elements

Until the arrival of the theories of plate tectonics and seafloor spreading in the 1960s, the Earth’s mantle was generally believed to consist of peridotites of uniform composition. This view was shared by geophysicists, petrologists, and geochemists alike, and it served to characterize the compositions and physical properties of mantle and crust as “Sial” (silica-alumina) of low density and “S...

Abnormal lithium isotope composition from the ancient lithospheric mantle beneath the North China Craton

Lithium elemental and isotopic compositions of olivines in peridotite xenoliths from Hebi in the North China Craton provide direct evidence for the highly variable δ(7)Li in Archean lithospheric mantle. The δ(7)Li in the cores of olivines from the Hebi high-Mg# peridotites (Fo > 91) show extreme variation from -27 to +21, in marked deviation from the δ(7)Li range of fresh MORB (+1.6 to +5.6) al...
